The Story Behind the Logo
Every logo tells a story. The puzzle piece at the center of the CPL Andrew L. Hutchins Memorial Ride logo isn't a design choice pulled from a stock library — it's a symbol rooted in a moment between a father and his son, and carried forward through decades of love, loss, and remembrance.
A High School Project
At some point during his years at Carrabec High School in North Anson, Maine, Andrew was given an assignment. His teacher handed him a puzzle piece and explained the idea behind it: every person who comes into your life is a piece of your puzzle. At the end of your life, a full picture emerges from all the pieces you've gathered along the way.
Andrew took that idea home. And he gave the puzzle piece to his father, Jeff.
He told him: "You're a piece of my puzzle."
What Jeff Carried
From that day forward, Jeff carried that puzzle piece in his wallet.
He had it when Andrew enlisted in the United States Army. He had it when Andrew deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division. He held it when the news came that Andrew had been killed in action on November 8, 2010 — at Combat Outpost Sabari in Khost Province, Afghanistan. Andrew was 20 years old.
Jeff carried that piece when Andrew's daughter, Allyssa, was born after her father's death. He carried it on fishing trips, through anniversaries, through the quiet years and the hard ones. He carried it when he helped other Gold Star families navigate their own grief. He carried it when he honored the fallen with Wreaths Across America — Andrew in his back pocket, as always.
When Jeff passed, he no longer needed the puzzle piece.
As the people behind this ride have said: "Jeff and Drew left us an example. Life's too short. Make friends, build your puzzle one piece at a time so that when it's our time to go, we will have made a difference to someone else."
Why It Became the Logo
When the time came to build something in Andrew's memory, the puzzle piece was the only choice. It wasn't just a symbol — it was the symbol. The one Andrew had chosen to represent what mattered most to him. The one his father had carried through everything.
The logo was designed to reflect who Andrew was: a soldier, a son of New Vineyard, Maine, a young man who believed that the people around you complete a picture you can't finish alone.
Today, that puzzle piece appears on every jersey, every banner, and every piece of merchandise connected to the ride. Riders carry it through 61 miles of Maine countryside — from North Monmouth to North Anson — as a visible reminder of why they're there.

Ride With Us in 2027
The 4th Annual CPL Andrew L. Hutchins Memorial Ride takes place on Saturday, August 7th, 2027. All vehicles welcome. Registration opens Spring 2027.
